The temple was built in 1966. It took 35 years to build the temple. It is ~200 years old temple, built in 1814 by Raja Jai Narain Ghoshal of Khidderpore (Bengal). The temple is octagonal in shape with eight gates. Each of these gates have inscriptions about measurement of cubicles, verandah, dome, number of stairs and height. This is believed to be the temple of meditation with small canopies built on each side of the temple. This ancient temple, included in the 51 Shaktipeeths, is dedicated to the Shakti form of Goddess Sati. The gem of the right ear of Goddess Sati had fallen at this place.
