The initial versions were aimed at classical lens design, but over the years the capabilities and breadth of systems it could handle expanded immensely. In 2011 the company was acquired by Evergreen Pacific Partners and merged with Radiant Imaging to form Radiant Zemax, LLC. This partnership brought significant investment and growth in both software and services. This investment enabled a major UI update in 2013 and a rebranding of the software as Optic Studio.
